Switchboard upgrades across Newcastle
If your board still runs old ceramic fuses, trips the whole house at once, or has no safety switches on it, a switchboard upgrade in Newcastle is one of the smartest safety jobs you can do. We replace tired old fuse boxes with a modern board — proper circuit breakers, RCD safety switches on every circuit, and clear labelling so you know exactly what’s what.
A lot of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie homes still run the original board from when they were built. That’s fine until you add an air conditioner, an EV charger or a reno — then the old board simply can’t keep up, and the nuisance tripping starts. We’ll take a look, tell you straight whether it needs a full upgrade or just a few added circuits, and quote it over the phone before we start.
Everything is done to current NSW wiring rules by a licensed electrician (Lic 477240C), tested on the day, and we hand you a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work when it’s signed off.
Ceramic fuses to safety switches
If you're still rewiring blown ceramic fuses in the dark, that's the board to replace first. We swap it for circuit breakers with RCD safety switches on every circuit — so a fault trips one circuit safely instead of leaving the whole house guessing.
Upgrading for an EV charger or reno
Adding a big new load? We'll size the new board with headroom for an EV charger, ducted aircon or extra kitchen circuits, so you're not paying to open the board up again in six months.
What you get, every time

Frequently asked
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
The clearest signs are old ceramic or rewireable fuses, no safety switches (RCDs), a board that trips constantly, or a burning smell or scorch marks around it. Adding a big load like an EV charger or aircon is another common trigger. Call 0422 174 357 and we'll assess it.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most home switchboard upgrades are a part-day to full-day job, with the power off to part of the house while we swap the board, fit safety switches and test everything. We'll tell you up front how long yours is likely to take.
Will my power be off during the upgrade?
Yes, the power needs to be off while we work on the board, but we plan it to keep the disruption short and we'll let you know the timing beforehand so you can plan around it.
Do I get paperwork when it's done?
You do — we test the installation and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW), which is your proof the work was done safely and to NSW standards.
Do you work across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie?
Yes. We're based in Jesmond and cover Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the wider Hunter. Give us a call and we'll let you know when we can get to you.
